Soroti

SOAP is located in Soroti Municipality in northeast Uganda. The first BIMI missionaries came to Soroti in the year 2000 at the invitation of one of the Parliament Members from the district. They were given 18 acres of land by the town of Soroti to be used in the establishment of a church, an orphanage, and a school. The site currently has four permanent buildings which house the students, provide classrooms for the Independent Baptist Institute and the Independent Baptist School, and a meeting place for the Independent Baptist Church of Soroti.

Orphan

For over 20 years, Joseph Kony has been leading a band of rebels called the Lord's Resistance Army. This rebel army has slaughtered hundreds of thousands of Ugandans, and many more have been abducted in their attacks. Additionally malaria affects nearly every family annually, and over half of those in the tribal areas are affected by HIV/AIDS. As a result of these rebel attacks and widespread diseases, many families in northeast Uganda have lost both mother and father.

Assistance

SOAP reaches out to the orphan children of Uganda with the Gospel and then trains them to become effective ministers to their own people. In order to do this great task, SOAP accepts into its care and custody children who are destitute double orphans (having lost both father and mother). We become their parental caregivers and provide for their physical needs along with godly nurturing and training for their spiritual development.

Project

SOAP is a facet of Baptist International Mission of Uganda (BIMU) with the unique purpose of ministering to orphans. Serving under the umbrella of the USA-based worldwide missions agency, Baptist International Missions, Inc. (BIMI), each SOAP missionary is sent under the authority of a stateside independent Baptist church to reach Uganda with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. SOAP was organized for the purpose of providing a “living tool” to evangelize Uganda through church planting. Our hearts’ desire is to see one of Uganda’s greatest and most-overlooked living resources – orphans – transformed into servants of God. God has chosen to be glorified by doing His work through the weak and the least of society (1 Corinthians 1:27-29). One can only imagine the spiritual potential of these orphans with whom we work. We have a vision of them becoming future pastors, missionaries, and faithful, active church members who are presently reaching this generation and are prepared to reach the next. Through these orphans, the unreached masses in Uganda and beyond will hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
