The Children of SOAP

The orphans we receive are admitted via an application process, which is initiated by family members mostly through word of mouth. Once the application is received we verify that the children are indeed orphans. Most of the children accepted by SOAP have lost their parents due to disease or violence.

Once approved, the children are brought to SOAP in January to acclimate to the SOAP environment and to prepare them for entrance into Primary school at IBS. The children are chiefly one tribe, the Ateso tribe, but all are from impoverished families that struggled to support them. The new children often arrive in tears, but in a just few days are laughing and playing with the other children.
